Welsh Quilts
Foll
Follow Connie and Jim's travels to a remote location in the middle of Wales in search of Antique Welsh Quilts. Connie and Jim travel to visit the shop and museum of Jen Jones, one of the foremost experts and collectors of antique Welsh quilts and blankets. Jen moved to Lampeter, Wales in the 70's and began her collecting and learning.
While there are many patterns the Welsh used for their quilts, among the most striking are their simple, whole cloth and strippy quilts. Each provided the quilters with plenty of space to practice their quilting art. The quilting is fabulous. In the trunk show that concludes the presentation, you will be shown examples of each. After the show, if you like, you will be able to put on a pair of our white gloves, and take a closer look at these gems.
This new (2019) presentation is both entertaining and informational. It is both a travelogue and a story about quilts.
You will learn all about Wales: a bit of its history, it's food, and its language; but the main focus of the show will be on quilts.
Dorothy Osler, a British quilt historian, thinks that the designs of Lancaster, PA Amish quilts were strongly influenced by their Welsh neighbors and their geometric, abstract, and vividly colored quilts. Not all agree. This presentation will point out the similarities and the differences between Welsh and Amish quilts.
Maybe after this presentation you will have your own opinion on the matter!
